Shizusan – An Asian Pop Up Bistro : Reviewed

Shizusan is a fun loving explorer and that can be any one of us who loves to travel, eat and share their bit of observations. Shizusan–An Asian Pop Up Bistro is a dream of a fictional young traveller and a foodie. His 215 days of culinary adventure beginning from Beijing and ending in Thailand is the base of this place where he got some experience with authentic recipes of Dimsums, Bao, Cold and Hot small plates, Khimchi or even Sushi.

Menu is very attractive, colorful and looks like a travel diary. As soon as you open, it will take you on a tour to the beautiful countries like Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, China, Korea, Malaysia to showcase some of the best recipes.

Shizusan, An Asian Pop Up Bistro, another outlet after 212 All Day Cafe and Bar, by Bellona Hospitality is located in Phoenix Market City with Chef Paul Kinny in common who has magic in his hands and his experience, perseverance adds to the value.

Seating is both Indoor and Outdoor. Interiors reflects the food trail of Shizusan. Classic and full of memories. We preferred Indoor seating and being an invitation the menu was fixed with n varieties. The tasting menu was intelligently designed and divided into sections of Dimsums and Dumplings, Cold Small Plates, Hot Small Plates. Sushi, Sashimi, Entrees, Curry Bowls, Rice, Noodles and Desserts.

Cold Small Plates had salads like Vietnamese Watermelon Salad and Shizusan's 17 Ingredient. Watermelon Salad was truly refreshing with fresh watermelon, radish, mint, cilantro, feta, almonds in a nutty chilli and garlic soy dressing. One of the signature dish with Shizusan's secret ingredient and pickled red onions and salted plum dressing.

Dim Sum is a Cantonese dish prepared as small portions and steamed.
Non Veg Selection:
Prawns and Chive
Lamb Suimai
Shizusan's Chicken Soup Dumplings
Poached Chicken
Though I am a pure vegetarian, but my friends were drooling over the Soup Dumplings.

Veg Selection:
Edamame, Petit Pois and Truffle Oil (A light green pocket and a lingering wasabi aroma) A Japanese Soul with French flavour. Somehow, I am not much wasabi fan so could not enjoy this!

Crystal Vegetables: Bright colored vegetables like carrots, squash and crunchy pokchoy veiled in thin, stretchy, translucent dumplings looked great

Vegetable Chui Chow were the pouches of Tofu, Mushroom and Roasted peanuts and drizzled with Chilli Oil. Tasted yum!

Hot Small Plate had Pepper Garlic Mushrooms and Chilli Celery Cottage Cheese. They were served and vanished quickly! Superb taste of Sichuan peppers and dried red chillies cooked with Cottage Cheese. A must try for people with the liking of spice. Highly recommended!

I have tried Sushi in many places, but nothing beat the ones at this bistro. One portion had 8 pieces. Veg selection had Quinoa Maki, a pickled veggies and seaweed complemented with wasabi peas which was good. For me, Sriracha Blush (Avocado, Cucumber, Crispy Jalapeno and Cream Cheese) was the star of the evening!

Rainbow Maki is a non veg sushi delicacy with Tuna, Salmon, Crab Stick, Cucumber, Tobiko. As the name suggests, quite a colorful sushi and obvious favourite too.

Last but not the least in main course was the Hot Stone Rice - Again a super favourite dish of mine. Watch this classic dish transformed on your table right before your eyes.

Ha...The best part – Desserts!
Peanut Butter Pie, one bite and just wow! Pie topped with Chocolate ganache and roasted peanut. Crunchiness of peanuts with sweetness of chocolate was making it irresistible.

Lychee and Date Wontons – Versatilw wonton sheets have neutral flavours but with Lychee and Dates filling, and deep fried, it was super yumm.

Tiramisu Asia – A recipe from the modern bylanes of China with Green Tea Sponge, Coffee Dust and Creamy Mascarpone. This dish is not to be missed.
