Spice Kitchen, JW Marriott – Kerala Food Festival — Reviewed!

Kerala–‘Land of spices’ offers multitude of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes using meat, poultry and rice majorly. The essence of its cuisines comes from the local spices like Chilli, Curry leaves, mustard seed, asafoetida. With dishes like Puttu or Kadala Curry, Kerala is certainly a food-lover's paradise. Bringing together the authentic flavors and spices from the southern state JW Marriott, Pune offers you a treat on your plate with the Kerala Food Festival.

During the festival, Patrons will get to sample authentic cuisine from Kerala including signature dishes like Kuttu Paratha, Appam with stew and Iddyappam. Waiters dressed in Mundu (lungi) and traditional sarees for the hostess’ will ensure that every one is flown away to Kerala during their meal.

We were welcomed with the Iced Coffee, quite different–nice concoction of filter coffee bit of coconut and crushed ice. Much needed for the warm summer evenings.

Appams were fluffy from centre, crisp edges and went well with superbly delectable veg stew. Combination of vegetables in coconut milk was making stew a hot favourite amongst us. Highly recommended!

Malabar Parotta or Kerala Paratha originates from Malabar region, hence the name. Delicately cooked, flaky in texture the parotta went well with Pachakari Korma (Veg Korma), which is a mixed vegetable preparation cooked with roasted spices and coconut.

Next on the plate was Pachakari Biryani or the veg biryani accompanied by dates and tomato chutney. Aromatic and delicious.

Parippu Pradaman was a single dessert offering from the festival. It was made with green lentil, jaggery and coconut. Texture was sticky and somehow was not very appealing! Really waiting for the payasam in the rotational menu any day soon.

Not to forget the jackfruit chips, banana chips and karela fry was one of the best I had.

A must visit festival for all people craving for authentic Kerala food made and served with love. The cost is inclusive of the regular buffet.
