Veganism, a way of living a cruelty-free life with a conscious decision of ending exploitation of animals, is a rage in western countries and now spreading worldwide. We all know Vegan foods are free of all animal products hence animal lovers can surely rejoice about the concept picking up steadily in the city's food scenario.
Pune has got city's first 100% vegan cafe, The Real Green Cafe in Lane 6, Koregaon Park. The Cafe is quaint with open kitchen, chalkboard menu, board games, books, and a graffiti pillar at the center. One should not expect anything usual in the menu. The Cafe brings best quality healthy food and beverages.
The owner, Aishwarya Vishwanath, is a qualified Management Accountant and animal rights activist with a passion for cooking and baking. She felt being vegan was not enough and that this entire movement driven by principle of not using or exploiting any animal for any kind of human consumption must be spread to the masses. Thus, it lead to her quitting her corporate job in the year 2013 and starting her own food venture in June 2015 under the name of The Real Green Cafe.
"My love for animals is endless and I didn't want any animal to suffer because of me. As soon as I realised, I gave up immediately" says Aishwarya, an ardent animal lover. Vegetarian by birth and vegan by choice Ms. Vishwanath explained the concept behind the cafe, "People want to turn vegans but they miss out on tasty food and do not know what and where to eat. Our cafe aims to offers them with an option to enjoy scrumptious healthy food".She further adds, "I never thought of starting a cafe, but when I started educating people about veganism, I realised there are hardly any options for vegans."

Vowing to change the perspective of people towards vegan food, the menu is simple with a twist, like Cappuccino in almond milk, Zucchini Burger, Sandwiches with whole wheat bread and tofu butter. "By using in-house made tofu butter, cheese, mayo in recipes, I make sure people do not miss any kind of dairy products", says Aishwarya.
A plant-based vegan diet can reduce the risk of many diseases like Cardiovascular disease, Hypertension, Stroke, Obesity, some cancers and Type 2 Diabetes. People looking for weight loss can surely go for the vegan meal and experience the difference. Talking about the health aspect she added, "Dairy products and meat contains a large amount of saturated fats. By reducing its consumption, health can be improved tremendously especially the cardiovascular health. Tofu, Lentils, Soya Milk are enough for protein requirement."
People should definitely visit and try their recommended items like Cheesy Spinach Mushroom Sandwich, Tofu Bhurji Wrap, BBQ Veggie Pizza, Zucchini Burger, Detox Juices, Tofu Chilli, and Black forest pastry.
