Pune is coming up with so many rooftop restaurants with stunning views. Teddy Boy is one of the restaurants located in Baner, offering starry nights, candle light dinner, cool breeze, stunning views on the roof top. Athithya Dining Hospitality is the name to bring this brand to Pune. Created by Priyank Sukhija, alike The Flying Saucer Sky Bar, Teddy Boy is also a trendy spot for not only drinks and food but also to give patrons a memorable gastronomic experience. Very interesting to know, how Teddy Boy got its name, well, it is inspired by the British sub culture of young men wearing inspired clothes worn by dandies which included bow ties, tapered trousers, long jackets.
Ambience:: Teddy Boy is spread over two floors – Lower floor is an English Pub and Rooftop (10th Floor) with a fantastic view of the hills, quirky furniture with shades of black, wall art, wooden decks, wooden bar, comfortable sofas. The place can easily accommodate around 350 people at a time. One can see the staff decked up in the Teddy Boy style, that bow, blue shirts, red pants, suspenders etc gives a very retro look.
Food: The star face to the restaurant is the Masterchef fame chef, Doyel Sarangi. She is confident to offer people Indian and International food with her twist. She has blended the new age spirit with her culinary skills to present people with the best of taste. Being a modern bar and lounge, Teddy Boy offers superb music along with the amazing cocktails and mixes made by a recognised mixologist, Felix Eleson, who has 11 years of experience. Teddy Boy also has a Banta Bar where they custom make dilli style Banta drinks!
We started with the watermelon based Mucho Melon mocktail..Perfectly refreshing! Banta Strawberry Chaat is a very interesting bar tipple wherein flavoured carbonated soda with chaat masala is presented in a traditional style with goti or marble in the bottle neck. Cocktails too had variants like Apple Cinnamon Mojito, Passion Mango Martini or Banta Bubbly Pan.
To my surprise, we were offered Veg Beer Soup. I am a non-alcoholic, though tasted and for me it was not my type (obviously). It was made with roux base and beer. Beer lovers can surely relish it!
Starters not only tasted great but the presentation was equally aberrant. We had Potato Skin Chaat to start with, nicely placed onto a small wooden cart with three dips – Mint Chutney, Yoghurt and Tamarind chutney. Potato skin was just awesome! Super addictive crispy snack!
Papad Cones with Veg, as the names suggests was again a delicacy from the kitchen. Rolled Papad filled with tomato, onions, and spices. Taste was awesome! Though, I wish the papad size could be bite size so as to ease in eating.
Nacho chips were topped with spicy mushroom masala plated beautifully on a wooden tray. Aloo Chhole Kulcha wrapped in banana leaves came on a toy rickshaw cycle. So cute! Aloo chhole filling was just perfect on the spices, flavours and kulchas were cooked equally good! One of the best dishes of the evening.
Non-vegetarians can try their hands on Chicken Kulchas, Teddy Fiery Prawns, Kasundi Chicken in the starters while Mutton Rogan Josh or Butter Chicken to name a few in the main course.
We had Khumbh Matar Hara Pyaz and Tandoori roti for the main course. Button mushrooms, veggies into gravy had subtle taste. Loved it.
Our evening ended on a sweet note with Chef's special Deconstructed Rasmalai Tiramisu. This layered dessert had ladyfingers or sponge biscuits at the bottom with a dash of chocolate, mascarpone, cream with small rasgullas dipped into it. You really need to dig hard to get that biscuit at the end. Taste wise, it was nice with right amount of sweetness and elements.
I was really looking forward for the Golgappa Choco Shots. Small shots of chocolate sauce and gol gappas filled with chocolate coated bundi as the idea behind this dessert.
Overall, a nice place to be with your friends, family and loved ones. Do try and share your experience in the comment below. Would love to read from you! :)
