Riwayat – Awadhi food, home delivered! — Reviewed!

Riwayat means customary and to keep the custom of good food alive, Swaty Kumar and her team has started the food delivery venture, "Riwayat" which is based in Viman Nagar and concentrates on the Awadhi food especially Kebabs, Biryani, Korma, Breads, Desserts.

When Swaty approached me for the tasting, I was super excited to try the delicacies. I was keen to try for lunch but was informed that they do not deliver for lunch. So, ordered my meals for dinner. Swaty promptly took the order on whatsapp and the time decided was around 7:30pm as that early we dine. She updated me the order will be reaching by 8pm. No issues till then. With delivery glitches and confusion, the order reached us at 8:45pm. The curry was spilled spoiling all other containers. Bit disappointed with the packaging!

Coming on to the food, this is what we order...
  • Sondha Paneer Tikka (3/5)
  • Hara Bhara Kebab (3.5/5)
  • Nawabi Dum Aloo (4/5)
  • Paneer Makhani curry (3.5/5)
  • Cheese Garlic Naan (4/5)
  • Butter Lacha Parantha (3.5/5)
  • Sabz Biryani (4/5)
  • Shahi Tukda (3.5/5)
Before writing in detail, let me share, I totally value the hard work goes behind such ventures. I respect the owners and the team behind it. My views are completely based on my personal experience and are subjective. Well, talking about the food I have mixed reviews because can't be decisive with my first trial keeping the distance in mind but that again should not be criteria as they have to deliver all over Pune.

Sondha Paneer Tikka was bit dry to me and I was wishing Paneer to be more softer. The marination was good, light and less spicy. The tikkas were grilled nicely but only if I could eat them hot and fresh.

Hara Bhara Kebab was delicious too but it was bit oily and overcooked. The kebabs had goodness of spinach and were enjoyable though.

Nawabi Dum aloo were made in rich, thick, creamy gravy with the half cut deep fried marinated potatoes. I loved the balance of spices and flavours.  It was paired with duly cooked Cheese Garlic Naan.

Paneer makhani curry was also nicely prepared in a gravy of tomatoes, nuts and topped with cream. Went well with the Butter Lacha Parantha which was bit thick.

Sabz Biryani was the star of the evening. Aromatic long rice with perfect blend of spices and assorted veggies was vanished within no time. Really loved the caramelised onions which uplifted the taste. It was served with cucumber raita which was equally delicious.

The dessert – Shahi Tukda went soggy, offcourse but I could taste the richness of rabri over the golden fried bread. I was thinking what if they were packed separately and served by the customers as per their comfort. Well, that's just a suggestion.

Deliveries, packaging and fine tuning of some of the dishes might help out grow the place. Wishing them all the best and kudos to the hard work.

  1. Very honest review I must say. Otherwise on PEO people who are obviously freinds of owner have sung praises which makes you believe that they are so good that they are the best in town and no one is even closer. If you look at Zomato reviews you will realise they are just average place at most.

  2. What you're saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I'm sure you'll reach so many people with what you've got to say.
