Azu : The Fern Residency – Quaint place — Reviewed

Azu, in Japenese means, peaceful, so was this restaurant. Though located in the hustle bustle of MIDC, Bhosari, this six month old quaint roof-top restaurant in the Fern Residency, is peaceful. Beautifully done contemporary interiors, artificial plants, white rough walls give it a European touch. What can be better than sitting with loved one enjoying delicious food with cool breeze flowing around.

The Fern residency has 2 restaurants, one of them is Azu, which is on the 5th floor. I went there and it seemed to be a cosy place to spend with your loved ones, be it family or friends. Cane chairs were decked nicely with the tables for 2 and 4. I was there with my family and was welcomed by Mr. Rajib, Operations manager and Mr. Ambadas, F&B Manager. Post some information about the place, we grabbed our table and were waiting for the culinary extravaganza to begin.

We started with the variety of colorful and refreshing mocktails...
  • Jade Garden
  • Tropical Summer
  • Pina Nina
  • Slushies
Jade Garden had the freshness of Khus and pineapple. Loved the green color of Khus settled in the bottom. This one was ordered twice!

Tropical Summer had a fruit punch with mixed juices. Coloful and served with zingy rim.

Pina Nina was a virgin version of Pina Colada. Served in mason jar, the drink was a hit on our table.

Slushies, was flavoured ice in different tastes of blueberry, strawberry, kiwis and more. We had blueberry which was good. It was a cool evening so I prefered to just taste such amount of crushed ice.

Now came the major part — the FOOD! We started with the most talked dish, Azu's Chaat Sampler. Super presentation! Orange flavoured Pani puri shots, Papdi Chaat and Papad Churi. The shots had tangy taste and puri had potato filling. Papdi Chaat was my super favourite. It had mashed potatoes, sev, coriander and pomegranate seed to garnish. Highly recommended! While, Papad Churi was crush of assorted papads. Loved it!

Next came Toasted Almonds and Baby Spinach Chaat. Deep fried battered spinach leaves were crisp and sprinkled with chaat masala to enhance the flavours. It had toasted almonds, though I wish it had more!
Moving towards the healthy choice, we had Sprouts Salad. Sprouted moong, Onions, red capsicum gave it a colorful look but the punch was added with the orange slices. The tangy, sweet taste of Salad was deliciously refreshing.

Oh they have so many delish options in starters that one would not need main course. We were tempted to try the signature dish, Gobi Bezule, a crispy fried Gobi or cauliflower preparation with mustard, fennel seeds in coconut cream.

Another fusion dish with quirky name, Quickgun Idli. I liked it too much. Mini idlis were crisp fried and tempered with gun powder, curry leaves, mustard seeds. Too yumm!

Menu have balance of veg and non-veg dishes. My friends had Lime Chicken, Bang bang chicken and highly recommended the Lime Chicken. As per their view chicken was succulent and properly marinated.

From the grilled and kebab section, we had Paneer Pepper Parsley Tikka, thinly marinated with pepper overpowering the flavour. Paneer was fresh though.
We were almost stuffed with the starters, but I was tempted to try Quinoa Kofta. Basically the dumpling or kofta had goodness of Quinoa, Spinach and cottage cheese and dunked into saffron sauce. With first bite, one can taste quinoa. Loved it!
Now was the finale time. Sad me, evening was about to end but on a sweet note. We had Kulfi, Rasmalai, Choco Lava Cake and Mousse.

Choco lava cake was gooey, moist and as usual full of chocolate. Yumm! Kulfi was rich and medium sweet. Rasmalai was usual affair. Mousse was presented beautifully.

Our lovely evening came to an end! :( We started when restaurant was opened for the day and we left when they were about to close. I don't know where the time flew. So, guys, if you are in that area and looking for a good romantic dinner or even want to spend quality time with your family, this is the place for you. They are opened only in the evenings.

Must try..
