Culinary Collection – food festival extravaganza at JW Marriott — Reviewed!

"Food is our common ground, a universal experience" – James Beard

Food is a celebration, a culinary journey, a fiesta for me. Festivities are incomplete without food and to enjoy it to the fullest under one roof; JW Marriott has come up with the unique food festival — 'Culinary Collection' in which all the restaurants of the hotel will be running a different festival to take people on a 15-day long extravaganza starting October 1, 2016. Foodies will witness Chefs from around the world, gathered to showcase the art of culinary delight that they have perfected over years. Puneites can indulge in different unique experiences and make their evenings memorable.

Precisely, Culinary Collection will have...
  • Spice Kitchen - 'Refreshing Sri Lankan' by Chef Mahesh Wanniarachchi and Chef Thushara Ranathunga from Colombo
  • Pune Baking Company - ‘Chocolate on Canvas' by Chef Vikas Bagul
  • Shakahari - 'Temple Temptations' by Chef Jai Kishen
  • Alto Vino - ‘Italian Awesome Twosome’ by Chef Christian Huber and his twin, Chef Andreas Huber
  • Paasha - ‘Deliciously Arabian’ by Chef Nicola Kadmos

Won't it be fun when you get to choose your favourite restaurant with special festival and have a gala time with the friends and family! The wide spectrum of dishes will spoil you by the choices.

Starting from Spice Kitchen, located on the ground floor, hosting 'Refreshingly Sri Lankan’ themes part of the Culinary Collection. Chef Mahesh Wanniarachchi and Chef Thushara Ranathunga from Colombo will be presenting their signatures dishes. Sri Lankan cuisine is predominantly boiled rice, prawns, veg and non-veg curries. Sri Lankan food is rare to find in any restaurant and for people who want to try unusual dishes from neighbouring country, head on to Spice Kitchen! Soup with Puttu was very nice.

As soon as you enter JW Marriott, on your right side, you can see canvases with beautiful sculptures and you will be stunned to know that they all are made up of chocolates. Chef Vikas Bagul, a celebrated pastry chef will bring Pune a unique and first of its kind experience, edible chocolate on a life size canvas. All his creations are inspired by the Indian architecture these canvases will be a reflection of some of the popular monuments across the country. Chef Bagul will also be conducting two workshops introducing guests to the art of chocolate making on October 8 and creating lip-smacking chocolate desserts on October 14.

Italian food lovers have one more reason to rejoice. Alto Vino is hosting the ‘Italian Awesome Twosome’ with Chef Christian Huber’s twin, Chef Andreas Huber who will be crafting some unique Northern Italian delicacies that will make you fall in love with Italian food even more. So you get authentic Italian food right on your plate at Alto Vino. Delicately made potato ravioli with mushrooms, fontina cream drizzled with truffle oil was just delicious. Spinach and cheese dumpling was soft and creamy.

Shakahari, the only vegetarian restaurant at JW, will be hosting ‘Temple Temptations’ which is inspired by the traditional Bhog offered in the temples. Chef Jai Kishen has crafted a menu which promises an authentic taste of food we get to eat in many temples.

Paasha, one of my favourite roof top is hosting ‘Deliciously Arabian’ food festival. Chef Nicola Kadmos from JW Marriott Marquis Duba has brought all the authentic specialities like Kebabs and Shorbas from Arab.
The food, aroma, taste, presentation is fantastic. Loved it! We had Falafel, hummus, labineh, moutabel, muhammara with fresh pita bread. Crispy fried falafel was yumm! Fattoush, a veg salad was lip-smacking, healthy and tasty! Must try!
