Mad House Grill – Fab place for Vegetarians too!

Mad House Grill, probably one of the oldest steakhouses in Pune which is a perfect mix of class and taste. I was pretty excited to visit the place and explore the 'not-so' explored the vegetarian side of it. Was I happy? Read on to know more...:)

Ambience:: Located in the Lane 8, near Murphies, the Mad House Grill has both indoor and outdoor seating. The aesthetically pleasing space literally took my breath away with those minimalist interiors. The combination of subtle, neutral and white balance, it gave the feeling of dining in a European home. Frames adorning the walls, pretty lamps, and the personal space on the mezzanine floor are some of the charming attributes.

Food:: The menu is a perfect balance of Continental, Indian, Steak and Salads. Mad House Grill also have come up with really 'healthy' stuff. The place is owned and managed by fit and fab woman entrepreneur, Mayuri Kapsi who is also passionate chef and always on the lookout for incorporating outstanding dishes on the menu. Some of the dishes are gluten free, grain free and guilt-free. Also, what I loved on the menu at this place is the healthy and balanced combination of nutrients to make a perfect dish. Each recipe is prepared with heart and soul and personal touch to it. Here is the sneak peek of what we had.
  • Hummus with Flat Bread (4.5/5)
  • Cheesy Caraway Potatoes (5/5)
  • Cheese Naan (4.5/5)
  • Stuffed Cheese Mushroom Kebab (4.5/5)
  • Cauliflower Augratin (3.5/5)
  • Madhouse Veggies Special (4.5/5)
  • Paneer Shashlik (5/5)
  • Stuffed Cottage Cheese (4.5/5)
DESSERTS
  • Caramel Custard (3.5/5)
  • Apple Crumble (4.5/5)
Started our lunch meal with the Hummus and Flat bread and unlike other pita bread, the seasoned flat bread was made with healthy and gluten-free 'Jowar'. The bhakri-texture flat bread was nice and crisp. The hummus was rich, creamy and the texture was grainy as it should be. The after taste of hummus was lingering.

Cheesy Caraway Potatoes was one of my favourite dishes from the lunch. Overnight marinated potatoes, double fried and poured with cheese sauce with the perfect aroma of caraway. The crunch, cheesiness, hint of herbs was the USP of this dish. Highly Recommended!

Filled with gooey cheese, the cheese naan was ideal to snack on its own. It was soft and light, the cheese flavour was bursting in the mouth. Loved it.

Next on the table was Stuffed Cheese Mushrooms. One of the most popular and delicious starters, wherein mushrooms are stuffed and topped with the cheese and grilled to perfection. The serving had lip-smacking double fried spicy potatoes and house made the salad for the freshness. Absolutely cheesy!

I am not a big fan of Cauliflower but the next dish, Cauliflower Au Gratin was liked by all. A casserole dish with creamy, cheesy Bechamel Sauce and topped with the crusty layer of cheese and breadcrumbs. It also had cube shaped cottage cheese for the filling tummy. Served with toasted bread and fresh house made salad was delish.

Most awaited signature steaks were on our table. A meal in itself the next dish was The Mad House Veggies Special. Served on the bed of herb rice, the veggies were tossed in the creamy cumin sauce. The steak dish had the perfect balance of proteins, carbs, and fiber. Loved it. A simple yet filling meal.

Paneer Shashlik was one of my favourite dishes for that lunch. It hit the right notes of flavors and taste. The 'real' spicy after taste of tomato based shashlik sauce was the key taste enhancer. Skewered veggies grills on the bed of herb rice with loads of flavourful shashlik sauce are one highly recommended dish. If you are a spicy-food lover, do not miss this to pair with your favourite drink

Another paneer dish and yes, frankly, I was the bit skeptical about Stuffed Cottage Cheese Special because of that red sauce. But trust me the taste was uniquely delicious. A yummy spinach, mushroom and cheese filling was sandwich spread between grilled cottage cheese stacks which were placed over the herb rice and poured with mild sweet and spicy red sauce. Presented beautifully, this dish too won my heart!

Desserts don't have many options but the ones they have are sinful enough to satisfy the sweet-tooth cravings. You can choose from Caramel Custard, Brownie, or German Chocolate.
Bit higher on the pricey side. I would personally recommend this place for the ambience and the steaks. Do visit the Mad House Grill and let the madness unwind. Share your experiences in the comment below.
