Indigo Delicatessen – A Gourmet Hub — Reviewed!

"A place where you can pick anything with your eyes closed - and you will be happy!"

Indigo Delicatessen, the venture of deGustibus Hospitality Pvt Ltd is a decade old baby and spreading its wings from Powai to Gurgaon and now in Pune at Phoenix Market City. It is known mainly for its scrumptious comfort food, innovative beverages and friendly hospitality, with newly added dimension of a lively bar with weekend live entertainment.

Located on the third floor, Indigo Deli, has a sense of place. A place where one can come for good food, stunning interiors and fine selection of drinks. The chic European 92-seater restaurant has show kitchen, open seating plans with comfortable sofas, wooden geometric patterns, shelves showcasing books and the in-house products like jams, marmalade. The place is famous for the much-loved selection of sandwiches, salads, pastas, light meals, and such; a wide range of delish desserts; a bevy of beverages and a daily changing, 'specials' menu. Bit higher on the price-wise but the quality and taste is unbeatable.

Some of the legendary dishes to try are...
  • Grilled BBQ Pork Ribs,
  • Risotto of Wild Mushrooms
  • Crispy Chicken Burger
  • Rueben Sandwich
  • Focaccia Bread
  • Homemade Ice-creams
  • Roast Chicken
  • Cornmeal Bread
  • Eggs Benedict
  • Thin crust pizzas
  • Crème Brulee
  • Molten Chocolate Cake
I visited the restaurant to try some of their specialities, also got a chance to interact with Chef Jaydeep Mukherjee, corporate executive chef. I tried some freshly baked Focaccia Bread and trust me, that was the "BEST" bread, I had in my life. So airy, light, fluffy and flavourful with onions. One can not resist on the bread basket placed in front. Just munch like that only!

I started with the mocktails...
Raspberry Cranberry Lime Iced Tea
Kiwi Lemonade.

Both had distinctive flavour with freshness of mint, lemon as common in both. Loved the Raspberry one more though because of the berry loads.

Soup was served in a "Masterchef style". Braised Carrot & Orange with Candied Ginger plated and then soup poured in. Velvety, creamy just perfect for an impressive dinner starter. Slight tartness of orange and dash of ginger added flavours. Such a balanced taste!

Veg Salad with grilled vegetables like heart of palm, salad greens, spiced walnut brittle and honey mustard dressing. Lip-smacking it was! Crunch of walnuts, freshness of green and infusion of dressing enhanced the taste.

Risotto of wild mushrooms and red wine is a classic style and it presses all the right buttons. First bite leaves a subtle earthiness and the creamy texture was just too good.

Sandwiches can never go wrong! They are love. And when Seared Mushrooms and Garlic Potatoes with brie and Caramelized Onions, on crusty French Bread was served, it made my belief more strong. So appetizing it looked. Light sweetness of caramalised onions, taste of mushrooms and hint of garlic on perfectly baked french bread made a great combo. Scrumptious!

Indigo Deli has thin crust pizzas as signatures and no wonder they are a hit! I tried 3 Smoked Peppers And 3 Cheese thin crust pizza. Colorful yet intact taste of red, yellow, bhavnagari peppers and right amount of Cheddar, Scamorza and fresh dollops of mozzarella pizza. Just perfect!

Crisp cookie crust topped with silky pudding, sliced banana with caramel sauce drizzled over it..Oh yum! The Banana and Caramel Pie was to die for. Loved every bit of it. Plum & Almond Tart is the heavenly combination. Tangy plums, melt-in-mouth almond filling with shortbread as crust made it so gorgeous. A must have!

Not to forget their homemade ice-creams. Had the shots of each of the following...Salted Caramel
  • Blueberry & Mint
  • Belgian chocolate
  • Pecan Butter
  • Strawberry cheesecake
  • Bailey's
  • Nilgiri Vanilla
Difficult to choose a favourite as all of them were incredibly delicious. However, Salted Caramel, Belgian Chocolate and Nilgiri Vanilla are classic decadent. Pecan Butter was nourishing and the after taste was soothing. People go and pick your favourite.

Diabetic Food Trail at Latitude, Vivanta by Taj — Reviewed!

Lovely people, you must have read my post on the second edition of Diabetic Food Trail which is held over 200 restaurants across 5 cities to offer everyone especially Diabetics, Pre-Diabetics and Health conscious individuals, a wonderful culinary experience. The Diabetic Food Trail is initiated by Seema and Manoj Pinto, director of Semora Entertainment and presented by Britannia Nutrichoice Essentials in association with Biocon. This year the trail had two major attractions –Diabetic Masterclasses and Diabetic Fitness Bootcamps.

I had a chance to visit and experience the lovely diabetic friendly menu at The Latitude, Vivanta by Taj, Pune. Quaint place, scrumptious food, quick service and smiling staff is what you can expect here. Exec. Chef Sachin Joshi and I had a bit of conversation following the meal. Being a winter noon, I preferred to sit outdoor with a view.

As mentioned menu is basic with the balance of veg and non-veg dishes with their nutritional value mentioned. I started with Carrot and Ginger Zinger, a detox drink (Rs.250). Perfect balance of Carrots with the zing of ginger.

Beetroot Pomegranate juice was the next (Rs.250). Healthy punch to the meal. Nice infusion of pomegranate into beetroot. Beautifully amalgamated and you know it had 0gm fat! :)

Next course of Salad had Cabbage, Carrot, Basil and Lettuce (Rs.400). I polished off the whole bowl in few minutes. Yes, it was that delicious. Crunch and freshness of lettuce with the salad dressing and seasoning made it lip-smacking. Great combo of veggies.

Main course started with the Whole Wheat Schezwan Noodles and Broccoli, Mushrooms and Bean Sprouts Stir Fry with Organic black rice. Sounds exotic! Relish the noodles in a healthy way. Bit oily to me though taste was good.
Extremely power packed, healthy and satisfying dish was Mushrooms and Bean Sprouts Stir Fry. Combined it with the organic rice and you are good to go for a happy meal. One needs to have an acquired taste for the organic black rice, but for me, health is what that matters! It is a nutty superfood and can eat it on daily basis. Some might find it chewy but they are extremely healthy.

Was too stuffed to have desserts but I was eager to try Tofu Chocolate Cheese cake. The Vegan dish was balanced sweet, obviously can't expect the same taste but atleast this is a guilt-free eat. The presentation was so beautiful that I had to think twice before gobbling it!

Overwhelmed by the hospitality of the Taj. Special thanks to Ganesh, Chef Sachin, Semora Entertainment and all its sponsors who supported this awareness. I wish the diabetic friendly menu continues forever!

The idea of bringing the freshness of artisans food directly to the plate, is well thought and executed by Chef Rajdeep Rana and his team. Trust me, the buffet spread is extensive with all the seasonal specialities crafted beautifully. One of the few places which actually offer what they commit. True to its theme, freshly procured, organically harvested and well executed by the chefs, this is an unforgettable experience for all the people.

Moving ahead is fresh doughnut counter with chocolate fountain, in-house made freshly churned seasonal ice-creams. At the entrance you will see the market styled meat shop, freshly made pasta counter with raw materials all procured from local vendors.

How local can it get with Buckwheat or Semolina Pasta? Team it up with Clams and Mussels, Buffalo Bolognese, Cream Sauce, Homemade Pesto, and Garden fresh tomato.

The buffet is planned to cater everyone's palate. So one can choose try the authentic local Maharashtrian flavours like Pithali Bhakri, Rassa, Mutton Curry, Bhaji at the exclusive counter.

The dishes are changed periodically so you can feast each Sunday differently! Thai food lovers can rejoice also, as there is special Thai Food Counter with some specialities on every buffet. Thai Curry, Snapper are a must try and not to mention the herbs and spices are house cultivated.

I was in awe with the simple, small things that were giving a very genuine feeling to the concept. Like a small toy bicyle carrying hand picked carrots, peas to munch is placed on the table. Also, the garden fresh different types of tomatoes are used for the salads. I mean everything so earthy! Use of jaggery, plums, figs in desserts gives us that satisfactory feeling of having something seasonal fresh and not frozen. Take a bow Chef Rajdeep!

We tried Corn tempuras and oh my god! What taste! Crispy fried corn with the honey chilli sauce was just mind blowing.

Farm fresh veggies like Aubergine, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin for charcoal grilled and had a very nice smokey flavour. Freshness is unbeatable! A must try!

Garden Fresh thin crust pizza had all the goodness of herbs, veggies and a crunch of walnuts. The Mozzarella cheese was also at its best quality. Basic yet delectable!

Grilled veggies, paneer were also equally nice. Paneer was succulent and had right amount of marination.
Chef's special Thai Green Curry and Rice were incomparable. Creamy, coconuty flavoured curry with exotic veggies was one of the best I had so far.

Well, my words and photos will be worth, if you people go and try it yourself. Brace yourself for a culinary extravaganza.
